What are Toastmasters meetings? Each week everyone has an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation. If you are looking for an effective and low-anxiety way to build communication and leadership skills, nothing beats the consistent practice offered by Toastmasters.
Come visit and see if Dialoggers is right for you.
When? Every Thursday, 11:30 to 12:30. You are welcome to bring your lunch.
Where? U.S. Forest Service, Northern Research Station, 1992 Folwell Ave., University of Minnesota, St. Paul.
Who are the Dialoggers? Dialoggers has about 15 members. A quarter are USDA Forest Service employees (that's where the club name comes from); a quarter are University of Minnesota students and staff, and half are people from the surrounding community (e.g.: a retiree, engineer, therapist, administrator). Over the years, the club has attracted students from many countries, including Australia, Cameroon, Canada, China, Czech Republic, India, Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Uganda, and Uruguay. We are a casual group, but meetings are well organized and effective. Past speeches have included highly technical academic presentations, creative storytelling, political commentary, inspirational talks, cooking demonstrations, comedy, sales pitches, and an explanation of Hmong attitudes towards chickens. In other words, there is room for whatever kind of speaking you need to do. Through all this variation, we pride ourselves in being positive and respectful, and having fun.
Dialoggers was chartered in March of 1982 under the leadership of the Federal Womens Program as a means to provide training in public speaking and leadership for both women and men.
